Compaq Presario R3000 Windows 7 Drivers


Introduction
This post is a guide for upgrading compaq Presario R3000 to windows 7. As we know R3000 is Windows XP base model, means no windows 7 drivers and support release for this product. Here i listed the drivers and installation guide after installing windows 7 in R3000 model.

Something you need to know.
Compaq Presario R3000 can be divided into 2 type, first R3000 with intel processor and 2nd R3000 with AMD processor. The difference is AMD driver use Nvidia chipset drivers and ATI Graphic Drivers While the Intel

Something you need to do:
Please run automatic update first, it will install the most latest drivers available for your system. To check whether your system have all the driver needed you can refer here.


Chipset Drivers

This chipset driver only for R3000 with amd processor, it will failed for model with Intel cpu.
Nvidia nForce Chipset Driver:
Version 15.49 WHQL - nForce 430i

Audio Drivers

Normally default hig definition audio istalled automatically either from windows 7 installation or windows update. If not:

Download this drivers:

ADI 1981B Audio Driver for AMD
Version:5.12.1.4010 A, 19.97M
Download 

ADI 1981B Audio Driver for Intel
Version:1.00 A, 19.94M
Download 

Install and it will result in error, ignore the error and proceed with:
  1. Open device manager by click START and type DEVMGMT.MSC in the search box and press enter.
  2. Look for "High Definition Audio...." or similar, it marked with yellow mark. 
  3. Right click on it and select UPDATE DRIVERS.
  4. Select "Browse My computer for Driver Software".
  5. Select "Let me pick from a list of  device driver on my computer".
  6. Click on HAVE DISK and click on Browse.
  7. Point to C:\swsetup\SP27325\SMAXWDM\Win2k_xp then select smwdmNV8.inf. for AMD point to C:\swsetup\SP25795\SMAXWDM\Win2k_xp then select smwdmNV8.inf.
  8. Continue with on screen instruction until installation finish. Ignore if it complaint not digitally sign driver.

Graphic Drivers (ATI )

ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 / 9000 series Graphic Drivers.
(for future reference, other supported vga: RS300M, RS200M, 900 series)

We need to Install this driver using the same method to install Audio drivers:

ATI M9/M10/RC300M VGA Driver
Version:8.003.3 C, 39.0M
Graphic Driver Version:  6.14.10.6436
Download 

Install and it will result in error, ignore the error and proceed with:
  1. Open device manager by click START and type DEVMGMT.MSC in the search box and press enter.
  2. Look for "Standard VGA" Under Graphic Adapter.
  3. Right click on it and select UPDATE DRIVERS.
  4. Select "Browse My computer for Driver Software".
  5. Select "Let me pick from a list of  device driver on my computer".
  6. Click on HAVE DISK and click on Browse.
  7. Point to C:\swsetup\SP30791\Driver\2KXP_INF then select CX_24159.inf or C2_24159.inf.
  8. Continue with on screen instruction until installation finish. Ignore if it complaint not digitally sign driver. 

Graphic (Nvidia)


NVIDIA Graphics Driver 
Version:7.2.3.0 B, 26.87M 
Support Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go/GeForce4 420 go

Note: If you try to look for the driver in nvidia download site, you won;t  find it because both Geforce 440 go and Geforce 420 Go drivers only provided by Manufacture, the most popular manufacture with this graphic is Toshiba. The best alternative drivers (mod drivers) is Version 53.03WHQL.

Of course Direct Install will fail but install it first, we need to extract the drivers. Proceed with:
  1. Open device manager by click START and type DEVMGMT.MSC in the search box and press enter.
  2. Look for "Standard VGA" Under Graphic Adapter.
  3. Right click on it and select UPDATE DRIVERS.
  4. Select "Browse My computer for Driver Software".
  5. Select "Let me pick from a list of  device driver on my computer".
  6. Click on HAVE DISK and click on Browse.
  7. Point to C:\swsetup\SP30132 then select NVCP.inf.
  8. Continue with on screen instruction until installation finish. Ignore if it complaint not digitally sign driver. 

Card Reader

This model use TI PCI1520 and PCI1620 Driver (TI refer to texas instrument).

    Install the drivers, Direct Install will fail ignore it. Proceed with:
    1. Open device manager by click START and type DEVMGMT.MSC in the search box and press enter.
    2. Look for "PCI simple communication" and "Mass Controller" Under Others.
    3. Right click on it and select UPDATE DRIVERS.
    4. Select "Browse My computer for Driver Software".
    5. Click Browse and Point to c:\swsetup\sp29788\base\Windows\tiinst and click open.
    6. Click next and continue with on-screen installation until finish.

    Notes:
    1. There are 2 wireless drivers, one is atheros and the other is bluetooth. If you have proble to identify your wireless driver and both drivers above didn;t work. Get the hardware ID for the wireless and post it here. To get the hardware ID you can refer to my post here

    2. Use the hardware ID to get any drivers you can't install. I expect co-processor drivers will be one of the missing drivers in certain model because most of the R3000 series use Intel processor. Only few use ADM processor.
